Hometown and breeding region: Dang district of Gujarat state is the homeland of this breed. The name Dangi is derived from the forest area of Dang. It is found in the eastern districts of the state of Maharashtra in the rain-fed region of the Western Ghats.
The cattle are reared in Dharampur and Vansada talukas in Dang district in Gujarat state and in Ahmednagar, Nashik, Thana and Colaba districts in Maharashtra state.
It is believed that the breed originated from a cross between the original local cattle of the hilly region and the Gir cattle of the western region.
Physical symptoms:
