After declaring Sikkim as the first organic state of the country, by promoting Dang district as the first organic district in Gujarat also, since 2015, efforts have been made to convert farmers in the district towards full organic farming. Now the farmers of Dang district have planted flax to cultivate with full organic method.
While the entire Dang district has been declared organic by the government, flax seeds were given to the farmers of Dang district through the Atma project for the purpose of adopting organic farming method. Flax is green manure used for soil improvement.
Green manure will improve the physical and chemical properties of the soil. Farmers of Dang district are adopting organic farming method by growing flax according to the soil as pests and diseases are being controlled along with increasing soil fertility as well as crop production and quality.
Benefits of green fall - Improves the physical structure of the soil. - Addition of organic matter to the soil activates micro-organisms. - Increases soil moisture storage capacity. - Crops grown for green fall pull nutrients from the soil to the depths and return those elements to the upper layer in the soil. - Growing pulses as green paddy adds organic matter as well as nitrogen from the air to the soil.
Manure is the main source for adding organic matter to the soil. But due to increasing prevalence of mechanization in agriculture, the number of livestock has started declining. Not only this, even today in rural areas animal manure is used as an incendiary and manure is prepared from the remaining manure. As it is not done properly, its quality is not maintained. In these cases, green manure is a viable option for the supply of organic matter. In green paddy, especially pulses are grown and buried in the ground before flowering. Which dissolves in the soil and decomposes and provides nutrients to the soil. Such crops are called green paddy crops and the whole process is called "green paddy".
Ways of Lala Padwara: Grow the crop in the field and press it in the field. This method is more prevalent. Bring the leaves and twigs of the trees to the ground and mix them. This method can be adopted if there are trees available in or near the field.
Grow green paddy crops in the field and use it to make compost. In case of low rainfall, instead of burying the green paddy crops in the ground, compost can be made by digging in the pits and sown in the field. Benefits of greenery:
Improving the physical and chemical properties of soil Has a positive effect on the physical and chemical properties of the soil. Helps to maintain organic matter in the soil. Acts as a source of food and energy for micro-organisms. Which allows microbes to grow faster. Which provides the nutrients required for the crop in the form of green leafy vegetables.
Air circulation in the soil is high. Improves soil texture. Increases the drainage capacity of heavy soils and air circulation. Increases the moisture capacity of light soils. Green cover provides soil cover, lowers soil temperature and reduces soil erosion caused by rainfall and water. Increase soil fertility:
Green manure absorbs nutrients from the lower layer of the soil and burying green manure in the soil adds nutrients to the upper layer. Green leaf litter prevents nutrients from entering the lower layers. The green leafy crops of pulses stabilize the nitrogen in the air (20 to 100 kg / ha) in the soil with the help of symbiotic micro-organisms. Organic acids, phosphates, lime and secondary elements produced by the decomposition of green manure by soil germs are more poetic.
Problem Soil Improvement: The continuous greening of the acreage in the bhasmic soil for four to five years increases the drainage capacity of the soil and makes the soil renewable. Improving crop production and quality:
Crop production after green fall increases by 15 to 20%. Crops like paddy have high levels of vitamins and proteins.
